Morning Routine

Surrounded by subtle pressures

Softly whispering strange expectations

Striking me with sudden changes.

Sickening social sanctions

make my life bittersweet.

Because the shirt I wear isn’t acceptable

and my skirt isn’t of the correct length.

Even alone I sense the construct of the world

overwhelmingly suppressing my creativity

And by my lonesome, subconsciously decide to conform.

So instead of wearing what will make me pleased,

I choose the outfit that will please them.

And now my room is a mess.
